In 1990, Paulette Rosen began as a student in bookbinding at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT, wanting to learn something totally new after a career in child development. As a student of art all of her life, especially in drawing and collage, working with her hands again felt like coming home. After 6 years of classes at CAW and elsewhere, she eagerly began teaching the class in which she had begun. She now teaches a wide range of basic hand bookbinding and box construction techniques and Suminagashi.
In addition to teaching, Paulette takes commissions for custom books and boxes, which are usually related to a special event. Her personal work is in making books as art. These are one of a kind books where she created the content, multimedia drawings, and creates a book or box structure that can best house the content. Currently she is exploring the themes of exotic birds and the charting of information related to birds and life. Her books are occasionally exhibited and are in several university collections, including Yale, UCLA and Connecticut College.
